Thrombectomy in stroke patients: is it effective 6 hours beyond onset?

New data presented at ISC 2021 have highlighted that thrombectomy 6 hours beyond time last seen well (TLSW) is as effective as thrombectomy within 6 hours in anterior circulation proximal large vessel occlusion stroke patients.

Dr Tudor Jovin and colleagues from the Cooper Neurological Institute, New Jersey, USA, presented results from a multicenter patient-level meta-analysis of six clinical trials, collectively called the AURORA collaboration.

This examined endovascular stroke treatment devices for patients enrolled 6 hours beyond TLSW, randomized to either best medical therapy (control group) or best medical therapy with effective thrombectomy devices (treatment group).
